Have you ever felt like you’re facing invisible opposition—discouragement, confusion, or a sense that something is pushing back against your faith? You’re not alone. Spiritual warfare is a real part of the Christian journey, but Jesus equips us with everything we need to stand strong and overcome.

In Lesson 6 of Training Radical Leaders, Daniel B. Lancaster unpacks practical tools for recognizing and resisting the enemy’s schemes—so you can walk in the victory Jesus already won for you.

Understanding Spiritual Warfare

Spiritual warfare is not about fighting people—it’s about standing against spiritual forces that want to hinder God’s work in your life and ministry. Paul writes, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against... the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12, NIV).

The good news? Jesus has already defeated the enemy at the cross. We don’t fight for victory—we fight from victory, using the weapons God provides.

Four Steps to Victory in Spiritual Warfare

Lancaster offers four simple, biblical steps for everyday victory:

1. Recognize the Battle
The enemy often attacks with fear, doubt, confusion, or division. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you discern when a struggle is spiritual in nature.

2. Stand on God’s Word
Every lie of the enemy can be countered with Scripture. Jesus Himself fought temptation by declaring, “It is written…” Find promises and truths in God’s Word and speak them over your situation.

3. Use Spiritual Weapons
Ephesians 6 describes the “armor of God”—truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, God’s Word, and prayer. Put these on daily, not just in emergencies. Worship, confession, and community support are powerful weapons too.

4. Pray with Authority
Don’t beg the enemy to leave—command him in Jesus’ name. Pray boldly, asking God to protect, fill, and empower you and those you lead. Prayer is not just a ritual—it’s spiritual warfare in action.

Every Believer Can Stand Strong

You don’t have to be an expert or a “super-Christian” to win spiritual battles. God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. Lancaster encourages us to pray together, support one another, and refuse to give up—no matter how tough the battle feels.

When you feel weak, remember: Jesus is your champion, and you are never alone.

A Simple Prayer for Victory

Lord Jesus, thank You for winning every victory at the cross. Help me recognize the enemy’s schemes, stand on Your truth, and pray with boldness. Fill me with Your strength and peace. Amen.
