Living simply makes loving simple.
Everyone wants to love and be loved. Yet so many find themselves trapped by old wounds, habits, and disappointments that make it hard to love deeply. If you’ve ever felt lonely or disconnected, know that you’re not alone—and you’re not stuck. There is a path to freedom, and it begins with the oldest commandment: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

But how do you do that, practically, when life feels complicated or your heart feels heavy?

1. The Simplicity of Love

Following Jesus isn’t about adding more to your to-do list. It’s about returning to the simple heart of faith: loving God and letting Him love you. True love is always healing. And the more we receive love from God, the more we are able to love others and ourselves.

Loving God isn’t about trying harder. It’s about opening yourself to God’s love so it overflows to those around you. Love problems are always God problems. When we struggle to love, we usually need to spend more time letting God fill our hearts with His love.

2. The Four Movements of Love

Jesus summarized the entire law in a single command:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

  • With your Heart:
This is the part of you that feels, hopes, and carries burdens. Maybe your heart is wounded or weighed down by perfectionism or the drive to prove yourself. God invites you to bring those burdens to Him. Picture sitting by a mountain stream with Jesus, letting His presence heal your heart.
Let My heart heal your heart, He says.
Healing happens as you spend quiet, honest moments with God, letting Him love you.

  • With your Soul:
The soul is where you feel deeply—your willpower and sense of mission live here. Maybe life has drained your soul and left you empty. God created a place inside you that only He can fill. When your soul is tired, spend time with the “Great Mapmaker.” Let Him show you that your worth is not in what you do but who you are—loved by Him.

  • With your Mind:
The mind is where the enemy loves to sow lies and discouragement. Our minds can become a battlefield of fears and doubts. But God offers a way to renew your thinking. Fill your mind with God’s truth and promises. Let Him plant hope where despair has grown. You can love God with your mind by allowing His Word to shape your beliefs and identity.

  • With your Strength:
Your strength is how you spend your time, energy, and gifts. It’s easy to fall into patterns of striving or self-protection, but real strength is found in giving your best to God and others—letting Him be your source. Even in weakness, God’s power is made perfect.

3. Receiving Love to Give Love

So often, the problem isn’t that you can’t love—it’s that you haven’t received enough love from God to give away. Open yourself daily to God’s love. Receive, then give. That’s the way Jesus modeled it, and it’s how we find joy and strength for life’s challenges.

4. A Simpler Life, A Fuller Love

When we love God with our heart, soul, mind, and strength, it changes us from the inside out. We become more like Jesus, healed and empowered to love those around us. This kind of love simplifies your spiritual life, turning complicated religion into a daily relationship.

If your life feels cluttered or your faith feels dry, go to the Source. Drink deeply of God’s love. Let it transform you and overflow to others.

Transformational Takeaway

You don’t have to have it all together to start. Just begin, today, to let God love you. Practice loving Him in the simple moments—quiet reflection, honest prayer, reading His Word, or helping someone in need. These habits will become the roots of a faith that is resilient, joyful, and life-giving.

Love is all that really matters. Begin today—He is waiting for you.
